Holidays and other news...

So it’s been a while since my last post and I know you’re just DYING to know all about what’s going on in our lives. So here’s an update on some current events. Enjoy!!

Valentine’s Day

I was super excited for Valentine’s Day this year for multiple reasons:
  1. This was my first Valentine's Day married to Matt.
  2. This was my first Valentine's Day with Matt, period.
  3. Valentine's Day was our One Month Anniversary!!
Clearly, this was a very important day to be remembered.

I wanted it to be special, so we made the necessary preparations. We bought some red heart garland to decorate for the holiday (that is still hanging up in our apartment because we like it). I bought some strawberry yogurt and strawberry applesauce because I wanted to have pink and red food for the day. For breakfast, I made pink waffles for us. He went to work and I got ready for our fun day ahead. He came home from work a bit later than I expected and brought with him…

Some gorgeous flowers

and some...

chocolate!

What a wonderful husband I have!!

On display <3

We then went to Idaho Falls and did some shopping at Target. We picked up some necessities, a lego set, and probably like 3 bags of chocolate. We also picked up some foam swords and Slinkys and brought them to a couple of our favorite boys, Garrett and Daniel (our nephews). We visited with them for a while and left with some heart shaped cookies Nicole (Matt’s older sister) had made. Matt and I returned to Rexburg and got dinner.

That’s right… a heart shaped pizza!! How neat is that?!

We thought it was pretty neat!

We went to Redbox to get a movie called Abduction (I know, totally unromantic). We watched the movie while we put together our new lego set. It was a wonderful Valentine’s Day that I will remember forever.

In other news…
  • I got another job! Yay!! I work as a hostess at Frontier Pies now. I have had four shifts and I love it so far. Everyone is really nice and super helpful. I stay busy the whole time I am there. I still work at the call center, but only for a few more weeks.
  • Matt will get his Associate’s Degree after this next semester. He is quite excited about this and I am so proud of his accomplishment.
  • I talked with some people who deal with student teaching and got some insights on that. I could student teach either spring or fall of 2013. I was hoping to do spring, (just so that I could be done sooner) but they all recommend fall. I am still deciding what would be the best.

St. Patrick’s Day

The night before St. Patty’s Day, I brought home a pie. It wasn’t just any pie, but a Grasshopper pie (don't get any ideas; it doesn't have grasshoppers in it. But it is green!!). Matt said, "It's like a mint oreo on steroids." I also think of those Girls Scouts cookies, Thin Mints, just in pie form. It is heavenly. The morning of St. Patrick's day, I made some of Matt’s favorite muffins.

Cinnamon streusel muffins

and...

green eggs!!

Yeah, we know... we're pretty legit like that.

My tangent on color-coded food

Growing up, my mom always made holidays a special and exciting time. When I was in elementary and middle school, I always brought my lunch to school. As far back as I can remember my food was color-coded for holidays. My mom would give me pink and red food for V-day and green food for Saint Patrick’s Day. She would dye the milk (or buy strawberry milk for Valentine’s Day) and make homemade bread and dye it accordingly. All the kids at school would say “Eww” or “What IS that?!?!”, but I didn’t care. I knew she thought I was special and loved me very much because she took the time to do this for me. I plan on keeping this tradition with Matt and my future children. Color-coded food = LOVE <3

Until I write again,

<3 Marissa

  2. "That's pretty neat!!!" My mom does the same thing with our food! It could be the reason I love the taste of food dye so much! I love that you guys put together legos! (Did you know they make girl legos now?!) I love your blog too! It's cute:)
